EP: Atomy Nevadí – Přibližovadla

The Czech band Atomy Nevadí is making some down-and-dirty good ol’ rock and roll. I do not know a word of Czech, but I know this is a fun EP. Purely on vibes, instruments, and vocals, this is fantastic stuff.

Their Bandcamp description through Google Translate says “We were born in a fire tower at a chemist’s during a full moon and then we disturbed the peace of our neighbors in the foothills of the Ore Mountains. After a very nice gentleman threatened to chop us up with an axe, we moved to Prague, where we continue.” From Spotify “We combine indie rock with psychedelia, we fish Czech out of the dirty waters of Anglicisms, and at the same time, we cultivate our friendship as three guys from a small town where collective depression reigns. This and much more seeps into our music.” I cannot verify how accurate Google’s translator is here, but I will always welcome this mood. Rebellious, staking a claim in this world, defying the status quo, and having fun doing it.

I jumped into this EP with no idea what to expect, and what I received was very rewarding. I have been racking my brain for examples of what this reminds me of, but I am coming up blank. It feels familiar yet totally fresh. The first song off this EP, “Somnia” immediately throws this punchy groovy tune reminiscent of the 2010s indie scene. An unrelenting bass line with some guitar riffs that don’t give up and a chorus that is asking to be stuck in your head.

Track 2, “Lisabon”, continues the energy right where “Somnia” left off. The groovy, chugging baseline sends me back to a college radio station. “Plíseň” follows suit with another raucous jam, starting acoustically and jumping into a repetitious chorus making me move my feet to the beat. These songs’ structures are predictable, which makes them so enjoyable. And the upbeat joyful tone certainly adds to the fun as well.

Přibližovadla is filled to the brim with fuzzy guitars and dancy melodies, a requirement for any indiehead’s approval. And if I may venture a guess, this would receive resounding approval. I am smitten with this EP by Atomy Nevadí. The songs are fun and rambunctious, giving me the same vibes of 2010s indie rock. They are a blast to roar through my speakers. I adore these feel-good tunes for the upcoming springtime and warmer weather.
