New Ghost, a soon-to-be well-known DIY shoegaze and alternative band, are releasing their newest album A Dagger In Every Tide on September 6th, 2024, and I truly and deeply believe that it’s going to be the album of the year for a lot of people. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to hear the album early and write about it, and I’m so grateful and happy that I got to, as I can already tell and see that this album is going to be huge.
One of my favorite track from the A Dagger In Every Tide is “Dreamsong” – with gorgeous, intertwining melodies and ethereal vocals that create a dreamy atmosphere, “Dreamsong” was easy to fall in love with. It has something for everyone, too, with its heavier guitar parts and hard-hitting choruses. The next track in A Dagger In Every Tidei, “Viscera”, brings captivating melodies, utilizing that same dreamy sound to create an absolutely beautiful six-and-a-half minute experience.
My favorite track from the album is easily “Red & Blue”. The intro grabs you with its ethereal melody, it claws at you, pulls you in, the riptide of sound that is “Red & Blue” crashing down around you and covering you completely, but only just before the verse comes in to captivate you further. This track is more than just a song, it is a journey, it is a trip to a place that only this song can take you to, the intertwining melodies wrapping themselves around your ears and suddenly transporting you away. I adore “Red & Blue” and its mix of heavy and dreamy guitar, its layered vocals, its quest-like nature, and I am absolutely certain that so many people are going to love it like I do.
A Dagger In Every Tide is an absolutely wonderful album and I am so intensely excited for everyone I know to listen to it (and then to listen to it over and over again when they’re in the car with me). This album is full of gorgeous, fully captivating melodies and intricate instrumentals that create a beautiful soundscape, each track an entirely different story and feeling. I genuinely, truly love A Dagger In Every Tide and I can’t wait to see where it takes New Ghost and what they do next.
