While it’s not Morgan Cole Brown’s first experience with music, his debut solo album, Watching Your Friends Get Famous, was released on April 19, 2024. Morgan Cole Brown shows off his heart with this album and captivates listeners with his catchy choruses and emotional lyrics. I feel so lucky to have been introduced to Watching Your Friends Get Famous – it really resonates with me, and I think it’ll resonate with a lot of others too.
My favorite track from Watching Your Friends Get Famous is “Feel My Heart Jonas (I think it’s broken…)”. This track draws from modern emo/DIY emo sounds but also from more nostalgic emo and punk rock sounds, creating this incredible, powerful anthem with a magnificent, triumphant-sounding outro. The outro smartly utilizes brass – the brass sound accentuates the vocals and structure of the backing guitar. The overall sound and vibe of this track are reminiscent of a thunderstorm or of driving with no destination. It’s powerful, it’s magnetic, it’s electric – “Feel My Heart Jonas (I think it’s broken…)” is an incredible track that I can’t get over.
Another track I really liked is “If Only I Could Stop This Fear (of dreaming that I’m dying)” – this track is utterly gorgeous and completely captivating. I adore the structure of the song and can’t get enough of the percussion buildup to the second part of the track. This song helps show off Morgan Cole Brown’s range, both musically and lyrically, and I was so enchanted by how the rhythmic plucking of the acoustic guitar draws the listener in and holds them while the vocals, and especially the lyrics, deliver the final blow – and boom! you’re in love with the song. I am obsessed with the passion and power behind the vocals when Morgan Cole Brown sings “I think that you’re crazy” near the middle-end of the song – there’s just something about it, something that screams a moment of triumph even if it feels like you’re losing the battle. “If Only I Could Stop This Fear (of dreaming that I’m dying)” is an outstanding track that deserves to find its place in everyone’s music library.
Watching Your Friends Get Famous is easily one of my favorite releases of 2024 so far and I feel so happy and lucky that I was introduced to Morgan Cole Brown and this album. The DIY scene is so much better off because this album and artist are a part of it and we are all waiting with bated breath for the next piece of artistry from Morgan Cole Brown.
