San Francisco rock project Lofi Legs, led by Paris Cox-Farr, brings a mix of charm and chaos to their latest release, Bag of Spells. Born from the DIY scene and evolved through years of collaboration, the album feels like a scrapbook of sounds and stories, with tracks ranging from jangly rock to experimental folk. With its analog vibe and deeply personal lyrics, Bag of Spells takes listeners on a journey through love, heartbreak, and self-reflection.
The lead single, “Chain,” sets the tone beautifully. It’s a strong opener. “Lexapro,” the second track, picks up the energy with electric, charged vocals and a repetitive guitar riff.
“Lately” takes an experimental turn, blending folk elements into the mix. It’s an unexpected crossover but works well in breaking up the album’s sound. Then there’s “Braid,” a clear standout and my personal favorite. It feels like an ode to love—addictive and dreamy. Closing the album is “ATL,” an acoustic yet chaotic track with muffled vocals. It’s a bit of a puzzling finale—beautiful in its stripped-down simplicity, but the chaos left me conflicted. Bag of Spells is an eclectic mix, showcasing Lofi Legs’ ability to balance charm with experimentation.
