A review of M. Vaughan’s Captivating ‘Keep In Touch’

Blending elements of electronic, pop, and indie music, M. Vaughan, also known as Michael Vaughan delivers a heartfelt, introspective, and catchy project with Keep In Touch. Following his 2021 debut  album, True Life, Vaughan continues to explore themes of vulnerability and existentialism in the four track EP.

The Lisbon-based singer-songwriter, producer, and DJ has a keen interest and love for making ‘emotional’ electronic music but beyond that, the multifaceted artist founded Super Tuff Records, a record label which he released his debut album and recent EP through while also uplifting and promoting international talents. Vaughan has been creating music for over a decade now and his passion for the craft truly shines through in his creative direction. The first positive impression one might get from the EP is the elusive but also magnificent album art. The picture depicts Vaughan running in front of a mesmerising fountain laden with statues while clutching onto his synthesiser, as if he is running for his life with his precious possessions from something. This cover initially drew an interesting contrast between itself and the title of the EP, but after listening to the project in its entirety, everything became masterfully multilayered.

The tracks on Keep In Touch explore themes of connection, love, and personal reflection, with a sound characterised by smooth vocals, catchy melodies, and atmospheric production. Vaughan produced this EP after traveling to and living in three different countries, learning new languages, and making special connections with the people he met. Entirely sung and produced by Vaughan, this EP truly feels like an extension and physical proof of his feelings.

From the infectious instrumentation to Vaughan’s hypnotic and smooth voice, this project has an ambiance and immerses the listener in the artist’s story.
