“Described most often as “dreamy”, T. G. Shand is a shoegazey dream-pop project by Annemarie Duff, Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand.
For lovers of “lush, twangy guitar-pop”, these tracks are beats driven, influenced by the early 90’s scene and lo-fi hip-hop production.
T. G. Shand came to life in 2016. “After Miniatures disbanded, it’s been an outlet for music ideas and trying out guitar and bass driven tracks.” Annemarie’s shoegaze roots found influences from the likes of Curve, Chapterhouse, Medicine, and equally from modern R&B/hip-hop heroes like Pip Millet and Little Simz.
After a string of successful releases, in late ‘21 the live band formed; Lucinda King on bass and backing vocals (Death and the Maiden), Matt Andrews on drums (Jed Parsons), and Jamie Stratton on guitar (Kool Aid). The band were able to sneak in a successful festival debut at Nest Fest 22’ alongside the likes of Glass Vaults, Marlin’s Dreaming, and Kirin J.Callinan, just prior Covid-19 restrictions that abruptly brought the New Zealand arts sector to a standstill.
Expect to hear a lot more from T. G. Shand in the near future, with a full album on the horizon and an upcoming show supporting Hans Pucket.“
Excited to share this new EP from a New Zealand-based artist from the home of my favorite Pickle Darling – Christchurch. I have shared some singles from this EP, so I am glad I can now share it in full. It is a mixture of various genres and is bringing refreshing indie pop that is experimenting with the sound a little bit more. Finally, something that is sounding a little bit different can expand your music horizons. The EP is well produced with so many different layers that you can re-discover after re-listening, also I am really enjoying the ’90s vibes in the song. Maybe it is because of the new Barbie and overall ’90s vibes everywhere, but I am liking the influence of that special music era in current indie music.
The EP is a colorful sound palette with little gems that everyone can discover for themselves. It was really fun to listen to it from the beginning to the end and I bet you will enjoy it too.
