Charmingly whimsical and inspiringly listless, the new tune from Los Angeles resident Camelot is the perfect soundtrack to balmy summer evenings. As the sun goes down and the evening gets cooler, the sound of the snappy drums and the acoustic guitar accompany warm feelings of relaxation and contentment.
The first new material from Camelot since the Four Years Later EP, which came out in March of this year, it feels fresh and wise with some excellent lyrical nuggets. Lines like “Move out west you won’t see no sand / play guitar you can’t sing the band” stand out among the beautiful, ethereal, lo-fi musical arrangement.
Reminiscent mostly of Russian-American anti-folk cult hero Only Son as well as Mac Demarco, Alex G, Boys Age and perhaps the sound of some of Albert Hammond Jr.’s solo material, it’s so laid-back it’s almost horizontal. Fittingly, the artist tells us the song is “about staying in bed until the last possible moment and wanting to hold onto the love and warmth that is in there as long as possible.” That’s that good shit right there.
Entirely self-produced, this enterprising multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter has had an extremely productive 2026 after a couple of years of artistic inactivity. Since releasing this tune, he has also unleashed another track called Once You’re Weak, which carries on down a similar path, albeit with a slightly more upbeat and energetic feel. It definitely seems like he’s on the right path with this new material. Long may it continue.
