Bugcatcher, a shoegaze band based in upstate New York, near Rochester, released their newest single “cadillac” and I am absolutely obsessed. Bugcatcher is made up of Jake Denning, and when live, bugcatcher also includes Carlo Pecheone, Ben Combs, Duvante Cora, and Alyssa Zaso. The New York state-based band released “cadillac” on November 1, 2024, as part of a split with three other bands, including Kitchen, Home Videos, and georgie. In “cadillac”, Jake’s (the vocalist) voice is mixed in a sort of hazy way, giving the song a dream-like quality, and the guitar, both the rhythm and lead, are mixed in a way that they are both crunchy and clear at the same time, creating this really cool effect that leaves the listener blown away. It adds so much depth and ambience to the track, and the way that the guitar and other instrumentals build throughout the track creates such an incredible energy. It’s not easy to create a song that is both dreamy and super energetic and to do it well, but bugcatcher did it, and I am positive that this track will be added to playlists often for many years to come, the bass and drums shaking the backseats of cars and Jake’s hazy vocals filling ears and minds.
