Single: Winkler – Bazooka Baby

Bazooka Baby” is the newest single from Bostonian bedroom rockers, Winkler. The song quickly ignites with a condensed drum fill before exploding in a hypnagogic chorus of bright and tremeloed organs, angelic electric guitar strums and swooning background harmonies.

Despite referencing “weapons of nasty mass destruction”, it’s all saccharine and sweetness here. The song’s verses are marked with a climactic ascending riff played in unison by guitar and bass while the keys and drums pulsate and build into a second blissful chorus.

Lyrically, the song is caught up with the potent concoction of excitement, dizziness, intimacy, and slight self-consciousness that new love can have on anyone who consumes it/is consumed by it. The second verse is followed by an instrumental break, led by an organ solo and ending with a triple threat organ/guitar/bass note shuffle that leads to one last chorus to bring it all back home.

Infectious and syrupy as a piece of Bazooka brand bubblegum pop, yet unlike its sticky, pink namesake, “Bazooka Baby” has a lasting effect that won’t burst your good vibe bubble.
