Single: MUTINY – O Salutaris

Earlier this year Mutiny dropped their debut EP- a four track skacore banger that featured all 4 songs in Japanese performed by Japanese skacore band Frail. Last weekend Mutiny played at Supernova Ska Fest, and Ryo from Frail flew around the world to join them on stage. Hours before they took to the stage they released a brand new single and asked their fans to learn the chorus to sing along while they played it live for the first time on stage.

I absolutely love this sense of community. From releasing their songs in multiple languages to flying people from around the world to join them on stage, to releasing music before a big live performance and asking your fans to sing along, Mutiny embraces the idea of music and art as a community experience.

The song itself (and the band) is one of the heaviest ska-core bands on the scene right now. This is music that has most of its roots in metal and hardcore, but absolutely does not abandon the ska rhythms. While hardcore has a reputation for heavy mosh pits and slamming bodies, Mutiny makes sure to bring a rhythm and dance to the pit. The heavy metal breakdowns and screams- the blast beats and speed drums will get every pit moving, but not until everyone in the crowd has skanked their ass off to heavy brass work and upstrokes.
