Single: Funny Feelings – Campaign

Funny Feelings is led by London-based Joey from the NYC band Gross Relations, giving the project this cool transatlantic soul that shows up naturally in his sound.

The song “Campaign” leans heavily into a 90s shoegaze vibe – very guitar-forward, super DIY, and washed in this dark, reverb-blasted atmosphere.

It sits comfortably alongside bands like Hotline TNT, Weird Nightmare, The Spits, Snõõper, and Tony Molina, and you can definitely hear the influence of Pavement, Guided by Voices, and even Nirvana peeking through. The beginning honestly feels like the opening of an early ’90s movie. The guitar melody is simple yet effective, backed by lush synth, drums, and a soft supporting guitar that ties it all together.

The vocals remind me a lot of 90s shoegaze – and dream pop — something between My Bloody Valentine and early Smashing Pumpkins, with a bit of the soft-spoken, reverb-heavy style you get from current Eyedress. The chorus line “It’s another campaign, just another bad dream” hits really nicely, especially with the vocal harmonies layered in. It’s the kind of hook that could easily become an earworm. The vocal melody itself is memorable, and doubling it with the lead guitar makes it even more effective.

My only quarrel is that with such beautiful guitars and vocals, I would’ve loved to hear a guitar solo at some point. And the song does feel a bit short – not in a disappointing way, just in the “I could’ve gone for one more section” kind of way. But that just means it’s easy to replay.

The strongest part of “Campaign” is definitely the lovely melodies that pop up throughout. They’re catchy without trying too hard and fit perfectly with the band’s fuzzy, buzzy, garage-rockness.

Funny Feelings have their debut album Under the Pit coming out January 13, 2026, and with this track as a preview, the full project should be something to look forward to.

7/10
